Henderson Church of Christ

Gary Puryear has been filling the position of pulpit minister at our congregation since the summer of 1990. Gary was born and raised here in Henderson. He has served congregations in Alabama and Mississsippi. He is married to the former Clydeen Taylor of Decatur, Alabama. They have two children and six grandchildren.

Neal Mathis has been serving as our youth minister since September of 2005. He graduated from Freed-Hardeman University in May 2003 with a degree in Bible. Upon graduation he worked with the Fishinger & Kenny Church of Christ in Columbus, Ohio as youth minister before moving closer to his hometown of Bowling Green, Kentucky to work with us. He is the only son of Gary and the late Charlotte Mathis of Bowling Green and is proud to have grown up a member of the Lehman Avenue congregation. Neal married the former Ashley Cottingham in March of 2007.  Neal will gladly tell anyone willing to listen why his job is the greatest in the world. Neal writes for a blog entitled Youth Minister 101 that provides ideas and advice to youth ministers.
